The District Report September 2008

From the desk of Dan Bourks, District Manager

As of this writing there are currently no new water connections available to the public. In an effort to obtain additional connections, the Point Roberts Water District on April 2nd submitted a revised Water System Plan (WSP) to the WA State Department of Health (DOH), with a subsequent submittal on April 23rd.

Then on July 28th, notice was received that the review was completed by DOH and, in accordance with the provisions of WAC 246-290-100, the revised WSP received approval. This action by the DOH will allow an increase of the water system limit from the current 2212 ERU to 2953 ERU. The acronym ERU stands for Equivalent Residential Unit, and this translates into an additional 741 residential service connections.

As of September 24th, Whatcom County Council reviewed and approved the changes to the WSP. However, the process is not complete. The Board of Commissioners must bring an agenda forth at their next meeting to review a draft by the Water District's attorney. There will then have to be a Special Meeting to pass a resolution adopting the draft and any amendments to it.

The commissioners and staff have appreciated your patience during the moratorium and, as always, look forward to serving the needs of the community by providing safe drinking water.
