General Locale

Point Roberts, Washington, USA is located on an approximately five square mile peninsula which extends south from the continental mainland. Point Roberts shares its border with Delta, British Columbia, Canada.

The 49th parallel is widely considered the international boundary between the USA and Canada, although the actual line markers that form the boundary are placed about 750 feet North of the 49th parallel, owing to accuracy achieved during the 1800's, when the line was surveyed.

The Strait of Georgia lies to the south and west and Boundary Bay to the east. As a result of these geographic considerations the only overland highway access to Point Roberts from Washington State passes through the lower mainland of British Columbia and requires two crossing of the international border.

Point Roberts is an unincorporated area under the jurisdiction of the State of Washington and the County of Whatcom.

The distance from Point Roberts to the county seat, located in Bellingham, WA is approximately fifty-four (54) miles.
